Airborne and impact sound
Speech excites surfaces through air; footsteps excite the floor directly. Floor sound control therefore needs more than cavity insulation: resilient layers, floor systems and separated ceilings can all matter.
Flanking paths
Sound may bypass an assembly through continuous boards, shared members or rigid edges. Opposing sockets, unsealed penetrations and missing perimeter isolation can reduce performance.
Choose the whole system
Compare documented assembly performance, including test conditions. Board types, layers, member spacing, infill and fixings belong together. Set requirements before specifying finishes and verify results by measurement where needed.
